Pellan... la femme désirée
Folly reigns supreme in Pellan’s work as fantasy surges unbridled and the need to dream is expressed in a form so free no rules contain it. Pellan is a master of colour whose inner worlds swarm with women and beasts. In true surrealist spirit, woman is desire and desire restores life. Pellan was the first Canadian artist to create an erotic painting.
While the lives of some artists are emblazoned on their canvases, Pellan’s work instead underscores a man who is passionate and kind, yet quietly contained. Pellan himself is revealed through his art.
This is the story of a man so ahead of his time that his vision exceeds even his own capacity.
