Reine du foyer
The Reine du foyer (Queen of the Household) trilogy documents how women’s roles in Quebec have evolved extensively between the Second World War and today. It focuses on the myth of the “queen of the household” that was created and reinforced in the 1950s. The trilogy helps us appreciate why this myth was created, when it reached its peak and how it was destroyed to be replaced first by the “superwoman” ideal, then by today’s young women who try to balance work and family with the help of their husbands. This documentary series is fuelled by input from experts (particularly women) in the fields of history, sociology, social science, advertising, etc., to shed some light on the typical lifestyle and values of Quebec women across the decades, supported by first-hand accounts and archive materials.
