LE GRAND VERGLAS
In January 1998, 4 inches of freezing rain pounded down on Southern Quebec in less than a week causing a disaster of biblical proportions. The documentary tells the tale of the momentous struggle against the ravages of nature that ensued and the roles that the decision-makers, the authorities, the police officers, the firefighters, the armed forces, and the legions of linemen played. Not to mention the community caregivers, the hard-hit farmers, the public at large, and families in general. Everyone pitched in to help their neighbours weather this perfect storm. A true fighter in his own right, Étienne Boulay introduces us to the men and women who helped Quebec get back on its feet in record time.
