Italia, Canada explores various aspects of the first wave of emigration from Italy to Canada roughly between 1860 and 1929, with a specific focus on Montreal. This documentary sheds light on arrival and settlement, economic and community life, family and kinship patterns, language and culture. Featuring archival footage, photographs and original documents, as well as interviews with historians, sociologists, first-hand accounts from several Italian Canadians and voice-over narration, Italia, Canada tells the story of the immigrants who came to Canada with dreams of a better life.
